Burton Rail Jam at Wisp
by gotbob on Feb.12, 2010, under Event, Sports
I stopped by Wisp last night to find the Burton Rail Jam was winding up. Some of my daughters friends were participating in the Jamfest, so I thought I would bust out the camera and try to capture some of the nonstop action. These kids RAWKed this terrain park. They had three heats and the best two runs were calculated. Top three from each category won some narly Burton gear. You can see and order prints from my gallery page for the Burton Rail Jam.
House Family Reunion
by gotbob on Sep.07, 2009, under Event
Labor Day at a park with the smell of burgers and hot dogs…mmmm. How else do you celebrate one of the holidays that marks the end of summer? The Houses spend their Labor day reminiscing about the good ole days with a good ole fashion family reunion. I was invited by a friend to take photos of this special event. In between eating (which was outstanding by the way,) I grabbed up some candid shots and managed to get groups of each family together. As “Hank” said when he introduced me to the crowd…”If you don’t think pictures aren’t important, take a look at the collection from days past in the book that everyone put together of our ancestors and you will see the importance.”
The event wraps up with a discussion and stories of days past. I didn’t know a soul except for one prior to going, but felt I knew the whole family afterwards. A family that proudly grew up in the Middletown Valley with plenty of stories to tell. Thanks for the invite. I hope I captured a few moments in time that make it to Aunt Prissy’s book. You can see the whole collection by clicking here. Here are the instruction on how to order prints and also other memorabilia.
Have a great day.
1st Wedding under my belt – Thanks Chris Vigliotti
by gotbob on Jun.20, 2009, under Event, Portrait, Wedding
I had the opportunity to shoot my first wedding with Chris Vigliotti. He was gracious to ask me to help out as a 3rd shooter to get me started. It was a pretty good experience. I had been apprehensive of taking on the responsibility for a wedding. I think this is definitely something that I could grow into over time. So, still not accepting wedding request at this time, however, I will gladly step up to second shooter to help out the more skilled photographers with their clients. It’s not that I don’t have the skills, there is just so much to learn and understand in the wedding business. I really had a lot of fun shooting Caitlin and Brandon. I hope they enjoy the shots that I contributed for many years to come. Below are a few of my favorite shots out of the 300+ that I contributed.
Gettysburg 27th Indiana Infantry Reg

It was a Living History weekend at Gettysburg National Park. Volunteers put on mini reenactments for the tourist and let me tell you. They must really love this hobby. I was dying in this heat and here they are all dressed up in heavy wool uniforms. Curators explained the details of the event as the troops charged across the fields. At the end of the demonstration they informed the crowd that this weekend was in honor of one of their fallen comrades, (If you have the name of that gentleman, I will give him recognition here and on the the collage I created.) Charles Heath of Middletown, MD.
If you get the opportunity to see these guys in action, I recommend it. They are very knowledgeable in civil war history…if they don’t know, they’ll just make it up.
Check the Gettysburg Battlefield website for the next living history event.
You can see more photos from the shoot and order pictures on the Gettysburg 27th Indiana Infantry Gallery. If you like those photos you can see my shots of the annual Luminary Ceremony on Antietam Battlefield.
If you would like photographic coverage of your next event, please don’t hesitate to contact me for availability.
Not a good week for Middletown
by gotbob on Apr.19, 2009, under City Scenes, Event
I was out cutting grass today when I heard the sirens and thought nothing of it. I turned to head back to the house and saw the plumes of black smoke bellowing from behind the trees just down the road. I ran in the house and grab the camera. I got down to the house on Unakite and the Pumper truck was already on scene and just hooking up water. Walking down towards the house through the onlookers I heard that everyone was out safely.
It is so unfortunate for the homeowners, but I want to tell you something, I really have great respect for the firefighters. This has been the second time I had the opportunity to see a fire close up and in its early stages. These guys are a well oiled machine. They are all volunteers. I do a lot of volunteer work for Relay for Life, serve at the soup kitchen, Patty Pollatos Fund and so on, but that has nothing on these guys. They are the real deal. We are normally running out of the house or harms way as they can’t wait to get into it!
The next time they are asking for money…please don’t hesitate to pull out your wallet. I would really hate to see them run out of gas on the way to your house or your neighbors.
